Vintage Story Prospector Atlas

Prospecting readings are worth far more together than one at a time. Paste the ones your group has taken, with the coordinates you took them at, and get a density map of your region, the strongest places to dig for each ore, and the spot where one more reading would tell you the most. Nothing is uploaded.

A coordinate line, then that position's ore lines. Both copper ore: high (4.2‰) and copper ore: high work, and per-mille figures are used where you have them.

Your readings never leave your browser Positions, not chunk tiles - the game samples a point Never reads your world file; no x-ray

A density reading is a probability, not a detector

Density search mode samples three rock blocks within 16 blocks and reports, per ore, a probability in parts per thousand that this part of the world generates that ore. It does not mean a vein is beneath you. That distinction matters, because acting on a high reading as though it were a detector is how people dig long empty tunnels and conclude the pick is broken.

The ladder, worst to best: miniscule, very poor, poor, decent, high, very high, ultra high. Miniscule is effectively nothing; very poor and poor are rarely worth the digging; decent or better is where an ore has genuinely generated well. Some ores only ever read low even in their best rock, so compare an ore against itself across your readings rather than against the other ores in the same list.

Readings are positions, not chunks

This is the thing most prospecting tools get wrong. The game's own wiki is explicit that the chunk idea is a misconception "perpetuated by mods that display results in chunk-aligned squares" — the reading belongs to the position you took it at. So the map here is a smooth interpolated field with your actual sample points marked, not a grid of tiles. A tile would imply the whole chunk was measured and is uniform, and neither is true.

The practical consequence: several readings a few hundred blocks apart describe a region far better than one reading does, and the gaps between them are genuinely unknown rather than "whatever the tile says".

Per-mille and grade words are not mixed

Where an ore has per-mille figures, those are used and any grade-only readings for that same ore are left out and counted. A number and a word are different quantities, and the game does not publish the boundaries between the buckets, so there is no honest conversion. Averaging them would produce a map that looks convincing and means nothing.

What this deliberately does not do

It does not read your world file. Everything here comes from readings your players actually took, which makes it a record of what your group has discovered. Extracting exact deposit coordinates out of a save is a different thing, and on a shared server it is effectively x-ray: it deletes the prospecting loop the game is built around. If you want that for admin or debugging on your own world, that is a legitimate but separate job.

Prospecting on a server you run

Node search radius and ore generation are world settings, so on a managed Vintage Story server you can tune how findable ore is for your group.
